Travel Day
It continued to snow all day but we were able to get the GS race completed despite the new snow. The cats had groomed early in the morning so there was only about 3 inches on the course which was more easily slipped and raked out by the course workers and the rest of the staff members of the various teams competing in the race. We had another great day with several athletes on the podium.
I left almost immediately after second run but by the time I got on the road it was 4:00 pm. The drive would normally take about 7 hours back to Sandy but I didn’t arrive until 1 am (9 hours later). Vail pass was open but I think I could have skied down the pass faster than I could drive. The road was scary and the eastbound lane was closed and had hundreds of trucks parked along the shoulder because they were stuck. The eastbound lane requires the traffic to go up the pass whereas I just had to go down it. Once I made it to Vail it rained the rest of the trip until Soldier Summit where the driving was a little challenging because of the snow. When I finally arrived at home I was surprised to find a few inches of snow on the ground, it would appear that winter has followed me home. Here is a photo of the roads and weather in Breckenridge as I was leaving.
